Twitter has begun testing a new font with users of the browser version. The typography change is quite discreet, so many people may not even notice when it occurs. The change, however, affected some specific letters in the user’s name, located in the profile information.

Even so, a quick search on the social network already reveals user complaints about the exchange. The lowercase letter “L” seems to have been the most modified, starting to be displayed differently from the “I” — which was used to fake usernames already in use. The letter “O” is also more prominent than the number 0, which now has a small bar in the center.
This is probably the reason behind the change: to avoid profile spoofing. Someone could create an account @CanaItech (there’s a capital “I” instead of the “L”) and try to impersonate FGG’s official Twitter profile, for example. Anyone looking quickly, without checking the verified seal, could get confused.
Twitter font change unexplained
It’s unclear why Twitter officially changed its font or why it suddenly decided to do so. The platform’s official channels don’t have anything about the update, so you can assume it’s still in the testing phase.
It also doesn’t appear to have expanded to the iOS nor Android app. Those using profiles with misspelled letters will need to get used to the new typography, which now denounces this strategy.
