The Last of Us, the series, was one of HBO’s biggest hits in 2023, being well accepted by critics, the general public and fans, who praised the adaptation of the story of the first game. With the second season already confirmed and about to start filming, the games director, Neil Druckmann, revealed that it may contain sections that were cut from the second game.
Recently, Sony and Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered for the PlayStation 5. This version of the game will bring, in addition to graphical improvements and new game modes, such as a section called The Lost Levels, showing unfinished sections that were cut from the final product, but which can be played. According to Druckmann, one of these excerpts should be used in the series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, the director, who is also a writer and executive producer of the HBO adaptation, said that anyone who plays this content will be able to notice an element that will be incorporated into the second season of the program.
Druckmann states that, despite the teaser, this element is not yet 100% closed in the adaptation as it hasn’t even started filming yet and plans may change, but fans will be able to get a taste of what’s to come before the premiere.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered should bring a new multiplayer mode and, along with The Lost Levels, a commentary track with the developers explaining their ideas and why exactly the content was cut. The game will be released for PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024.
The HBO adaptation, which should adapt the story of the second game in more than one season, should begin filming at the beginning of 2024, aiming for a premiere between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. The series, which is competing to the Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2023, will once again bring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) e Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Joel and Ellie, years after the events of the first season.
