Whether it’s a brushed metal texture for a futuristic look or antique paper for a vintage, distressed effect, there are thousands of different aesthetics you can explore to define the ideal texture for your project. They can be found in high resolution for free on Adobe Stock.

How to add texture to an image

After choosing the ideal texture for your project, follow the steps below to apply it to an image in Photoshop:

  • Open Photoshop;
  • Import the image you want to add texture;
  • Go to File > Open and add the texture image;
  • In the Layers panel, position the texture above the main image;
  • Select the texture and, in the upper left corner of the Layers panel, change the blending mode from “Normal” to “Overlay”;
  • Try other blending modes and use the “Opacity” slider to modify the appearance of the texture in the main image;
  • Save the project and/or export it as a PNG or JPG to share it on the web and in apps.
