After a good month with important releases, February 2024 arrives with what is perhaps one of the most anticipated games of the entire year, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. In addition to the new version of Square Enix’s classic RPG, the month brings games to play online, such as Foamstars, Helldivers II and finally, Skull and Bones.
In addition to these titles, the month also features the launch of the controversial Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. For those who enjoy lighter titles, February still has the arrival of a new Mario and Donkey Kong game.
Check out the biggest highlights of February 2024.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Developed by Rocksteady, the same studio responsible for the Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League puts players in control of members of the Suicide Squad with the mission of, as you may have guessed, eliminating the heroes of the Justice League.
Taking place in the Arkhamverse, five years after Batman: Arkham Knightthe game had a turbulent development, especially after the revelation that it was a “game as a service”, always online and with all the characteristics of this genre.
Some choices made for the story seem to have displeased fans of the series even before the game was released. However, there is still hope that it will receive more content and end up becoming popular with the public.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League arrives on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on February 2nd.
Foamstars is Square Enix’s new franchise, delivering a competitive game with teams of up to four players in scenarios that can be completely changed with foam. In its announcement, the game was heavily compared to Splatoonfrom Nintendo, but tries to introduce new game modes and captivating characters to try to stand out.
Being released as one of February’s PS Plus games should also not harm the title’s chance of finding its audience upon launch. Foamstars will be released on February 6th for PS4 and PS5.
The sequence of Helldivers continues to invest heavily in online multiplayer, but changes the series’ gameplay a little. The isometric dual shooter layout of the previous game was left in the past, as Helldivers II It adopts close third-person gameplay, but still strong in the teamwork scheme.
With squads of up to four players, you must face aliens in a war in the middle of a hostile galaxy, using heavy weaponry and mechs to accomplish your mission.
Helldivers II will be released for PC and PS5 on February 8th.
Mario vs Donkey Kong
The rivalry between Mario and Donkey Kong has lasted more than four decades and, despite some moments of peace between the two, every now and then they decide to clash again. Mario vs Donkey Kong is a puzzle game that was born on the Game Boy Advance and that puts the player in control of the plumber, solving puzzles in different scenarios to rescue Mini Mario dolls that were stolen by the monkey.
Nintendo promises, in addition to multiplayer, 130 stages for players to explore. For those who want a light but still challenging game, it seems like a great option. Mario vs Donkey Kong arrives on Nintendo Switch on February 16th.
Skull and Bones
Skull and Bones is a pirate game from Ubisoft that was announced in 2017 and, since then, has always appeared in the company’s showcases, but never with a concrete release date. “Coming” finally has a date, as the online title arrives in February with the promise of exploring the naval battles of the 17th century, at the height of the golden age of piracy.
A single player game mode was promised, although the game’s focus is on online multiplayer, in which players will be able to join friends or fight against them in search of treasure or improvements for their ship.
Skull and Bones will be released on February 16th for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The big launch of the month and one of the most anticipated games of 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of Square Enix’s legendary remake. After an outcome that left many fans very confused about the direction of the story, Rebirth arrives to open up the world of FFVII once and for all to the current generation.
With the promise of improvements in gameplay and the answer to several of the mysteries that arose with the previous game, FFVII Rebirth It has perhaps the greatest weight in the trilogy proposed by Square Enix as it reveals whether we will see that scene or whether it will be different this time. And yes, I’m talking about THAT scene.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29th for the PS5.
