Globo announced news and took stock of the year of Cartola, the main fantasy sports game in Brazil. In a presentation held in São Paulo, the broadcaster announced new game modes for 2024, in addition to a reformulation in the commercial part of the game, which promises to bring more benefits to users.
In 2024, Cartola will also be present in the state championships, something that was already highly requested by players. For all regional tournaments in Brazil, there will be Bolão do Cartola. In this mode, players bet on who will be the champions and runners-up, as a kind of warm-up for the Brasileirão. It is possible, according to Globo, to create groups, in the same way as Cartola.
Furthermore, the Campeonato Paulista, Brazil’s main regional championship, will have its own edition of Cartola, with rules similar to those of Cartola do Brasileirão. The new game mode starts alongside the tournament, on January 16th, and will include not only the group stage games, but also the knockout stages.
At the end of 2023, however, some surprises are also in store for players. It will be possible to assemble teams in the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be played by Fluminense; NFL, with games between December 24th and 31st; the Christmas NBA matches and, finally, the Boxing Day games, in the Premier League (English Championship).
This year, the big news in terms of gameplay were the new scouts and the possibility of casting up to one minute before the start of the rounds.
“The extension of the closing of the round and the review of the scouts brought even more dynamism, making each resource strategic in the fight to gain more points in the game. Next year, we will invest in even faster game models and reinforce the construction community through new dynamics that encourage socialization”, explains Daniel Martins, Head of Cartola, in a statement.
Year 2023 breaking records
According to Globo, the year 2023 was a tremendous success. In Fantasy’s balance sheet presentation, the company revealed some engagement and audience numbers. The Cartola app, for example, was the most downloaded on the App Store and one of the five most installed on the Play Store.
Overall, the platform reached an average of 1.5 billion views per month, with 1.7 million users accessing it per day and more than 4.6 million teams created, something that should attract even more advertisers and prizes for the participants in 2024. “We are bringing to the market the possibility of using Cartola’s dynamics to guarantee its strategic presence at key moments in the consumer’s journey throughout Brasileirão 2024”, explains Martins.
